Dr. Jin Li Will Explore Role of Culture in Child Development in Three Talks

Dr. Jin Li, an internationally recognized authority on the role of culture in children’s learning and development, will deliver three lectures in Memphis March 27-28. All three talks by Li, an associate professor of education and human development at Brown University, are free and open to the public. Her visit is coordinated by the University of Memphis and the Urban Child Institute. The schedule includes: “U.S. and Chinese Preschoolers’ Beliefs: Is Learning a Task or a Virtue?,” March 27, noon, the Urban Child Institute, 600 Jefferson Ave. To reserve a place, call 526-1822, ext. 244. Li studies how children across cultures and ethnic groups develop learning beliefs, how they are socialized in this development, and how their beliefs influence their actual learning and achievement. Her research involves preschoolers, school children and college students in the United States, China and Taiwan. The event is sponsored by the Urban Child Institute, the College of Education, the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research, and the Department of Psychology.
