Summer Program in Germany
This program provides a unique opportunity to advance your language skills substantially, receive credit for your studies, and visit Germany at a reasonable price - all at the same time.
Dates: July 19 - August 12, 2010
Location: Katholische Universität Eichstätt. Eichstätt is a fairly small, beautiful city located in Bavaria not far from Würzburg.
I. Language, Culture, and Literature Courses:

Social Events: Official welcome reception in the “Spiegelsaal” of the Prince Bishop’s residence An afternoon in Ingolstadt Social gatherings Closing banquet Film showings Optional evening courses in theatre and dance available (included)
Trips: 2 all-day cultural excursions to Bavarian sites (including Regensburg and Wuerzburg)
Daily Class Schedule: Monday-Friday (July 19- August 12) morning and afternoon classes (80 contact hours/six credits).
Eligibility: Students in good standing at the University of Memphis; German majors/minors will have first priority. (Program is limited to 8 participants).
Credit: Participants will receive 6 credit hours for the successful completion of the courses. The credits will be transferred from the University of Eichstätt/Ingolstadt.
Housing and Board: Participants will stay in double or single occupancy rooms; breakfast is included in the program fees; lunch and dinner are offered in the student cafeteria for about $10 per day.
Cost of the Program before February 27: $ 1700 (double room); $ 1900 (single rooms). This includes tuition at Eichstätt, room and breakfast, day trips, and extra programs, International program fee. Not included: Travel expenses (airfare from Memphis to Munich is expected to be around $850 & train $100), lunch and dinner, health insurance, personal expenses. Should the exchange rate go up, the tuition will be adjusted.
Cancellation: The program fees with the exception of the $350 application fee is refundable for withdrawals before May 30.
Scholarships: Scholarships for University of Memphis students are available through the Study Abroad Office, 102 Brister Hall phone: 678-2814. Applications may be obtained at that office or downloaded at:

The deadline to submit a scholarship application is March 1, 2010.
Travel Arrangements: You will make your own arrangements. The Study Abroad Office will provide you with resources for student travel.
Documents Required for Entry: Valid U.S. passport. If you do not have a passport, apply as soon as possible. Issuance requires between four and six weeks. Apply at: www.travel.state.gov
Number of Spaces Available, Non-Refundable Deposit, and Deadlines for Applications: The number of spaces available is limited to eight. Applications forms are available at the Study Abroad Office. Completed application forms (Eichstätt/University of Memphis) should be handed in to the Study Abroad Office by February 27 at the latest.
Payments: The program fee is due February 27, 2010 and has to be paid at the Study Abroad Office. After May 30, the Eichstätt program fee is not refundable.
Medical Insurance: Every participant will be issued an International Student Identity Card that provides a basic insurance package (included in your fees). For those who desire more benefits, there are other Trip-Safe insurance options possible.
Important: Medical conditions which require special medical care must be disclosed. This is for your protection.
Clothing: Coat, jackets, sweaters are advisable. Take an umbrella as well as your bathing suit with you. Temperatures in Germany should be pleasant at this time, but the evenings can be cool. Please bring towels with you.
