A Unique Experience at the Crossroads of Europe

Application Deadline: The deadline to apply is March 1, 2011. In addition to the University of Memphis study abroad application, students must complete an application for the Catholic University of Lille. The application and instructions are available for download here.

Program Description: The European Summer Program of Lille Catholic University is a multidisciplinary program designed for students who are looking for a comprehensive international educational experience at the heart of Europe.  To view a video about the program made by a student click here

Courses: The European Summer Programs are composed of a core program that includes an intensive French language course (from beginner to advanced level) and several courses on the field of study. Session 1 and 2 are located in Lille, France and Session 3 is based in Paris, France. Available courses include:

  • Session 1 - French Arts, French Culture and Society, European Studies, or European Business and Management
  • Session 2 - Communication, French Culture and Society or Engineering
  • Session 3 - European Business and Management in Paris

Classes will meet from Monday to Friday with free week-ends for sight seeing and travel. Field trips associated with the course will be on weekdays. Housing: Students will be housed in individual rooms at the University's halls of residence. Students will have a meal plan at the university's cafeteria from Monday to Friday.  Cooking facilities are also available in the halls of residence.

Lille: A Vibrant European Metropolis!

Lille is a young, attractive and lively university city situated at the heart of North-Western Europe. It is at the hub of a cross-border metropolis (France-Belgium) of around 1.2 million inhabitants, with a student population of over 100,000.

The city is the capital of French Flanders and is strategically positioned: within a 150- mile radius, there are five European capitals (Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Luxembourg and Paris), and excellent road and rail links make Lille a major European crossroads.

Lille is known as a friendly city: its people work hard but also know how to enjoy life. Lille offers a wide variety of entertainment, cultural and sporting activities, pubs and restaurants, as well as fine museums, concert halls and theaters, mostly within walking distance from the Lille Catholic University campus.

Program Fees and Refund Policy: The program fee is $3,850*, 3,700, or $4,500 depending on the session. A non-refundable deposit of $350 is due by March 1, 2011 in order to secure your place. Program fees for Session 1 and Session 2 include housing, include breakfast and lunch during the weekdays, tuition for 6-9 credits, $350 application fee, travel pass for the bus, metro and tramway in Lille. The program fees for Session 3 includes 9 credit hours (6 business and 3 French), accommodations and a public transportation pass in Paris. The program cost does not include personal expenses, some meals, medical insurance and roundtrip airfare. Please submit you payment to the Study Abroad Office located at 102 Brister Hall. Fees with the exception of the deposit will be refunded in full if notification is received 30 days before the program start date. Withdrawals up to 29 days prior to the program may incur a charge based on any unrecoverable expenses made by the program. Cancellations should be in writing and are only effective upon date of receipt of written notification. Should the University decide to cancel the program, there will be a full refund of all fees paid.
