Faculty Program Director: Dr. Carolyn Speros, Assistant Professor in the Loewenberg School of Nursing at the
University of Memphis will lead the program to Europe.
Eligibility and Space Available: The program is open to undergraduate and graduate level nursing students and public
health students from the University of Memphis and any accredited public or private
university.
Program Description: This study abroad program is designed for nursing students interested in increasing
their understanding of international health care issues as they relate to nursing.
The intent of the course is to broaden the student’s world view and global perspective
of nursing and healthcare systems.
Housing and Board: Participants will stay in double occupancy rooms in 2-3 star hotels in Switzerland,
France, and Germany. Breakfast each day and some meals are included in the program
fees. All sightseeing fees, entrance fees to tour sites, and transportation fees during
the tour are also included.
Travel Arrangements: The Study abroad office will assist participants in making all travel arrangements
to Europe. Students will need a valid U.S. passport. If you do not have a passport,
apply as soon as possible. Issuance requires between four and six weeks. You may also
pay an additional fee to get your passport issued within two weeks. The passport application
can be downloaded at http://travel.state.gov
Important: Medical conditions which require special medical care must be disclosed. Participants
should be in good medical condition and be able to cope with long walks and high altitudes.

Day 13: Geneva - Memphis
Program Fees and Refund Policy: The program fee is $2,850*. This fee does not include tuition for 3 credit hours
which is estimated at $900 for undergraduates and $1,300 for graduate students. The
program fee includes in-country travel, double room hotel accommodations, student
ID card, application fee, breakfast, and some meals. The program fees do not include
round trip travel to Europe, medical insurance or personal expenses. A non-refundable
deposit of $350 is due by February 15, 2011 to secure your place. Payment should be
made at the Study Abroad Office, 102 Brister Hall. If you are a U of M student, you
can pay the deposit online here.
Fees with the exception of the deposit will be refunded in full if notification is
received 90 days before the program start date. Withdrawals up to 45 days prior to
the program will incur a charge of 10% of the program costs. Withdrawals up to 20
days before the program will incur a charge of 50% of the program fees. All other
withdrawals within 20 days or less will incur a charge of 75% of the program fees.
In addition to these fees any unrecoverable expenses will be billed to the student.
Cancellations should be in writing and are only effective upon date of receipt of
written notification. Should the University decide to cancel the program, there will
be a full refund of all fees paid.
Additional Program Fee Policy for Non U of M or Non-Degree Seeking Applicants: Non-degree seeking students who are accepted to participate in a U of M program are
required to pay a non-refundable fee of $500. This will be applied toward the total
program fee. Full payment of your program fee is due two weeks prior to the official
program start date. No arrangement can be made for deferred payment.
