Applications submitted after March 1, 2010 will be accepted only if there are available spots. In addition to the regular study abroad application, students should complete this application for UPSA.

Eligibility and Space Available: The program is open to undergraduate students from the University of Memphis and any accredited public or private university.

Program Description: The host university for the program is Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca (UPSA). Salamanca is a college town with more than 40,000 university students. The streets of Salamanca are full of culture carved in stone, like the house of shells (la Casa de la Conchas), the Cathedrals or the Main Square (la Plaza Mayor). The city of Salamanca has been designated as a world heritage site by UNESCO. In addition to classes, students will be able to participate in a series of activities organized by the language institute at UPSA.

Courses: Students may earn 6 credit hours by enrolling in intensive Spanish courses for beginners, intermediate and advanced level.  Classes will be held daily from 9:00 to 1:00pm. A language lab will be available to students two days a week in the afternoons after class.

Housing: Students will be placed with host families in single or double occupancy rooms with two meals a day and laundry.

Program Fees and Refund Policy: The program fee is $1,950*. The program fee includes tuition, teaching materials, CIPS application fee, housing, meals, field trip and cultural activities and student ID card.The program fees do not include international travel, visa fees, medical insurance or personal expenses. A non-refundable deposit of $350 is due by March 1, 2011 to secure your place. Please submit you payment to the Study Abroad Office located at 102 Brister Hall. If you are a U of M student, you can pay the deposit online here.

Students will receive a full refund of the program fees with the exception of the $350 deposit if withdrawals are made 14 days before the program start date. Withdrawals made 7 days before the program start date will incur a 90% refund in addition to the non-refundable deposit. Cancellations should be in writing and are only effective on the date received. Should the University decide to cancel the program, there will be a full refund of all fees paid.
