Dr. Don Franceschetti joined the University of Memphis faculty in 1979 as an Assistant
Professor of Physics and was promoted to Full Professor in 1986. He has served as
Chair of the Physics Derpartment, Interiim Vice Provost for Research, Faculty Co-chair
of the 2005 SACS Reaffirmation of Accreditation Committee, Director of Learning Communities,
and currently is one of two Co-Directors of the UTeachMe program.
His research has tended to be interdisciplinary, reflecting a broad range of interests
or a less than disciplined mind. He has been particularly interested in the interfaces
between physics, chemistry, human and artificial intelligence.
He has received the M.L. King Human Rights Award, the Alumni Association Distinguished
Research Award, the President's Allan J. Hamond Award for Service and The Briggs Award
for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. He has also held Dunavant and Faudree Professorships.
