I changed my mind...
Even with something as life changing as higher education, there are times when you
make a decision that you later regret. You might have been sure on the day that you
filled out your application for admission that you were destined to be a doctor only
to find out that chemistry, physics, biology, and math are required to get to medical
school. When you change your mind, you might not have another direction picked out
and ready to go. You need some help in making a decision about the right direction
for you.
Depending on when you make the decision to change your major, you might have different
experiences in academic advising. It is always a good idea to keep your advisor informed
about your academic plans. Until you have a new advisor, your assigned advisor can
be of assistance even if your major is not in their area. If you have trouble making
a decision, your advisor can refer you to various campus resources such as Focus2,
Career Counseling and Career Services, and to various advisors and faculty in departments
in which you have an interest. But your advisor can help you manage the process.
Don't leave your advisor out in the cold!
If you are thinking about changing your major, talk to your advisor right away! If
you wait until its time for registration, you may experience a delay in making this
connection to your advisor. You might be surprised how much easier it is to get an
appointment with your advisor early in the semester.
