Outstanding Alumni Awards Dinner
The College of Arts & Sciences Alumni Chapter hosted its 13th Annual Outstanding Alumni Awards Dinner on Thursday, October 1 at The Racquet Club of Memphis. The award recipients were James Morse (BS ’90, MS ’93), Manager of EH&S and Laboratory, Ciba Corporation; Keith Prewitt (BA ’81), Deputy Director, United States Secret Service; Thomas Appleton (BA ’71), Professor, Eastern Kentucky University; and Meah King (BA ’02 MAT ‘05), English Teacher, East High School. Outstanding Friend of the College this year was Maurice Elliott, Chief Executive Officer Emeritus, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. Photos of this lovely evening will be posted soon. In 2008, the Chapter honored Dr. Hortense Spillers (BA '64, MA '66), Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt Professor, Vanderbilt University, Maura Black Sullivan (BA '89, MA '97), Assistant Superintendent, Planning and Student Services for Shelby County Schools, and Jamie Lee McMahan (BS '65), National and International Portrait Artist. Dr. Reed Baskin (BS '65), Eric Robertson (BS '03) and Peggy Turley (BA '85) were honored as outstanding alumni, and Wallace Bruce and Olivia Bruce were honored as outstanding friends in 2007.
Back to School with Biology and Political Science
The College of Arts & Sciences Alumni Chapter celebrated Nights Back at School featuring the faculty of the Political Science and Biology Departments this summer. Alumni, faculty and staff enjoyed fellowship from both degree programs while discussing updates in the departments.
