Race Judicata 5K Run/Walk Saturday, April 6 The Law Alumni Chapter will host the Race Judicata that kicks off at Mississippi River
Parkk located at 51 North Riverside Drive. Race Judicata benefits Memphis Area Legal
Services (MALS), which provides free legal service to the elderly and low income families.

Law Week Launch Party Friday, April 26, 5-7pm The Law Alumni Chapter will co-host the Law Week Launch Party, a gathering of local
legal organizations, on Friday, April 26, from 5 to 7 pm in Court Square. This free
event will feature food by the BBQ Shop and music by WALRUS. Members of the legal
community are invited to attend, and are asked to bring a canned good or monetary
donation to support the Mid-South Food Bank. For more information contact the Alumni

Judicial Reception The Law Alumni Chapter honored members of the local, state and federal judiciaries
in early November. The reception also celebrated the recent bar admittees from the

Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law 50th Anniversary Celebration The Law Alumni Chapter and the School of Law celebrated the 50th Anniversary in style
in October. Fellow alumni, current and former professors and deans, and members of
the legal community enjoyed food from Memphis-area restaurants and music from the

Class Reunions Members of the classes of 1984, 1992, and 1997 held class reunions in conjunction
with the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the School of Law in October.
Law Week Launch Party The Law Alumni Chapter co-hosted the Law Week Launch Party, a gathering of local legal
organizations. Guests brought a canned good or monetary donation to support the Mid-South
Food Bank.
Law Spring Reception The Law Alumni Chapter, law school faculty, staff and students gathered in mid-April
at the Chapter President's home for an annual spring reception. To view photos from

Law Alumni Chapter Judicial Reception
 The Law Alumni Chapter honored members of the Supreme Court of Tennessee, members
of the Federal, State and Local Judiciary and recent graduates of the School of Law
in early November. The formal portrait of Dean Emeritus James R. Smoot was also unveiled.
2011 Law Reunion The Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law Alumni Chapter hosted a Law Reunion for the classes
of '66, '71, '76, '81, '91, '96, and '01. Guests enjoyed a private guided tour of
the Law School followed by Happy Hour at the Westin Beale Street and then cheered
on our Tigers as they took on the ECU Pirates at the Liberty Bowl. Click here to view photos from the reunion.
Law Alumni Chapter CLE The Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law Alumni Chapter hosted a CLE entitled "Protecting
the Vulnerable: Demystifying Probate." Attendees received 7.5 credit hours and enjoyed
an evening cocktail reception after the presentations.
2011 Pillars of Excellence The Law Alumni Board would like to thank everyone that attended the Pillars of Excellence
Dinner on Saturday, August 13 at the Holiday Inn, University of Memphis. Award recipients
included Leo Bearman, Jr., David E. Caywood, W.J. Michael Cody, Robert L. Green, John
Paul "Jack" Jones, Hon. Russell B. Sugarmon, and Friend of the Law School Charles

Race Judicata The Student Bar Association and the Law Alumni Chapter held Race Judicata - a 5K Run/Walk
- in early April. The race benefits Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS). MALS provides
free legal service to the elderly and low income families.
Law Gala The Grand Opening Gala in mid-January was an overwhelming success. Many thanks to

Law School for Journalists At the 4th annual Law School for Journalists, journalists and lawyers explored how
the new technology, from websites to blogs to Twitter, is changing the way journalism
is practiced and how the law and legal system are adapting. This event was sponsored
by: The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee, The University
of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, the Journalism Department of the College
of Communication and Fine Arts at the University of Memphis, The Law Alumni Chapter
and the Memphis Bar Association.
Scholarships
The Law Alumni Chapter funds several student scholarships including the Law Alumni
Honor Student Scholarship, the Pillars of Excellence Law Alumni Scholarship, the Law
Alumni Scholarship Award, and the Excellence in Legal Education Award. For more information
