2009 Parents of the Year

The University of Memphis Alumni Association will sponsor the annual Parent of the Year contest during Homecoming 2009.  Students are encouraged to nominate parents or guardians who have been an inspiration to them and others. 

All parents who are nominated by their students will receive a congratulatory letter and a copy of the essay submission.  Winners must be able to participate in the Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. and recognition during the Homecoming game on Saturday, October 10, 2009 (kick off is 7:00 p.m. at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium). Game tickets will be provided.

Click here for an application. Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18.  Nominators will be notified by Wednesday, September 23 if their nominee was selected as a winner.

2008 Parents of the Year

The University of Memphis Alumni Association Parents Club congratulations Ceci and Bill Walker as 2008 Parents of the Year! Bill attended the U of M from 1980-1982, graduating with a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction.  The Walkers reside in Jackson, TN, and have been integral in the Parents Panel at Freshman Orientation, Campus Day and recruiting students in the Jackson area.  They were nominated by their daughter, Elizabeth (Libba) Walker, and U of M student James Fyke.  On the same day that her parents received this honor, Libba became Ms. University of Memphis. Congratulations to the Walker family!

Thank you for joining us at Family Weekend 2008!

The event-packed weekend in April included the Blue-Gray Football game, softball games, a reception hosted by the Parents Club, and concluded with All-Sing. Thanks to all of our families for participating!
