Scholarship Award Recipient
This year’s UMAR Scholarship winner is Jessica Dawn Voyles. She is a Senior, majoring in Psychology. She also serves on the Undergraduate Advisory Committee for the Department of Psychology as a student representative (asked to serve in that capacity by the Department Chairman) and currently serves as treasurer of the Psi Chi Psychology Honor Society. Jessica performs community service note taking for students with disabilities and volunteering at the Memphis Public Library. Jessica's father is a Research Equipment Technician working in the Department of Engineering Technology at the University of Memphis. Jessica will be recognized at the December 1 UMAR Annual Holiday Luncheon at the Holiday Inn.
UMAR Upcoming Event
The Annual UMAR Holiday Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, December 1 at the U of M Holiday Inn. Check-in begins at 10:00 a.m. and an informative program from Dean Porter, AVP, Student Affairs, and Dean of Students. Lunch will begin at 12:00 p.m. and will feature remarks from University President Shirley Raines as well as musical selections performed by students from the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music. Membership Information
The University of Memphis Association of Retirees (UMAR) is an active organization or retired professors, administrators and staff. Its mission, consistent with that of the national organization in higher education, is “to advocate, to educate, and to serve.” UMAR conducts a variety of activities focused on meeting the social and networking needs of its members through special event luncheons, dinners, tours and trips, as well as helping to coordinate various volunteer activities within the University. With support from the Alumni Association, UMAR hopes to pursue programming that will provide educational opportunities for its members, support for the University and opportunities to be heard on major community issues. UMAR is a constituent organization of the University of Memphis Alumni Association, and members are entitled to the same benefits and privileges as all Alumni Association members.
