Herff College of Engineering Alumni Chapter

Book Scholarship

The deadline for applications for the 2015-2016 Engineering Alumni Chapter Book Scholarship has passed.

The Engineering Alumni Chapter hosts events throughout the year to benefit its book schlarship. All Herff College juniors and seniors can apply for the $500 scholarships. For more information,  contact Alumni Coordinator Brandon Hoyer at or 901-678-1333.

Professional Development Hour 
Jack Bailey, senior sales engineer at Yaskawa America, Inc., addressed harmonics, regenerative loads, motor surge voltages and energy savings using fan and pump laws in conjunction with variable speed drives.

Tiger Basketball Watch Party
The Engineering, Arts & Sciences, CEHHS and University College Alumni Chapters got together for a watch party to cheer on our Tigers against the Gonzaga Bulldogs on January 31 at Central BBQ Downtown. 

Tiger Football Watch Party in Memphis
The Arts & Sciences, CEHHS, Engineering and University College Alumni Chapters cheered on our Tigers against the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday, September 27 at Central BBQ.

2014 Herff College of Engineering Awards Dinner
The 2014 Herff College of Engineering Awards Dinner was held at the Memphis Botanic Gardens on Friday, April 11. The Engineering Alumni Club and fellow alumni, friends, and family joined together to celebrate 50 years of educating future engineers and to honor Mr. Joe Royer (BSCE '71, MSCE '75). This "Golden Jubilee" included a cocktail reception, silent auction, short program, dinner, dessert and entertainment. View Photos

Engineering PDH Seminar
Thursday, November 21
This one-hour webinar featured Dr. Kathryn Simpson (BS '99) who presented "FDA Medical Device Regulations 101 - An Industry Perspective." Lunch was provided to in-person attendees and certificates were issued to participants for one Professional Development Hour.

Engineering Outstanding Alumni Awards
The Engineering Alumni Chapter recently presented their Outstanding Alumni Awards at the Herff College of Engineering's annual awards banquet. Arif Shakeel (BSME '77), director of Western Digital Corporation, will receive the Outstanding Alumnus Award. Also being recognized for service to the College and to the field of engineering are Tommy Carls, Medtronic's senior vice president for Research and Development; E. Hunter Harrison, CEO of Canadian Pacific Railroad; John Ray, Jr., CareFusion's vice president for Global Research and development; and International Paper. View Photos

Professional Development Luncheon
Engineering professionals and students attended a Professional Development Seminar in February featuring LEED: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. LEED accredited professionals, Daniel McKee, David Bradford, Eric Sheffer, Tony Pellicciotti (BSET '93) and Krissy Buck, provided an overview of LEED, a leading edge system for certifying the greenest performing buildings in the world. The panel discussion covered sustainability in design, construction, and building operations including best practices and current technologies. Attendees received a certificate for one professional development hour (PDH).
