FCBE Alumni Chapter The FCBE Alumni Chapter is seeking nominations for its 2012 Outstanding Alumni Award recipients. This award will be presented to deserving business school graduates at the Alumni

be Dr. Dipankar Disgupta from the Department of Computer Science, recipient of the

The UMAR Book Club will meet on Tuesday, September 25, at 11 am at Brother Juniper's. Enjoy breakfast with the group before discussing
this month's literary work, Two Americans: Truman, Eisenhower, and a Dangerous World, by William Lee Miller. The Book Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of every other
month.
On Thursday, October 11, join UMAR for a day trip to Little Rock to visit the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum and Heifer International
World Headquarters. The motorcoach will depart from the Alumni Center at 7 am. The
cost is $40 per person and includes motorcoach transportation and museum admission.

Law Alumni Chapter The Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law Alumni Chapter will host a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminar, "Busted! Local and National Criminal Issues," Thursday, August 23, at 8:30 am. The day-long conference will be held in Wade Auditorium at the Law School,
located at 1 North Front Street. Presenters and their topics include: Professor Ernest
Lidge, ethics; Professor Steven Mulroy, national issues - Fourth Amendment; Cameron
Hyder, Assistant Attorney General for the State of Tennessee, death penalty appeals,
requests for relief; Shayla Purifoy and Jeannie Kosciolek, protective orders; Judge
Mark Ward, Tennessee issues, local practice; and Judge Louis Montesi, Tennessee issues,
local practice. The cost is $120 for University of Memphis Alumni Association or
Memphis Bar Association Members, $90 for attorneys who have practiced for three years
or less, and $150 for others. The seminar is free for students and faculty ($5 per

Journalism Alumni Club The Outstanding Journalism Alumni Awards Dinner will be held the evening of Thursday, October 18, in the Tennessee Ballroom at the Holiday Inn on Campus. The Charles E. Thornton
Award will be presented to photographer Battle Vaughan (BS ‘65) and public relations professional Rikki Boyce (BA ‘74). The Herbert Lee Williams Award will be given to the former head of the
UM Photo Services Department, Gilbert Michael. The Outstanding Young Alumni Award will be presented to sports journalist Gary Parrish (BA ‘99). The Emerging Journalist Award will be presented to Chelsea Boozer, current editor-in-chief of the Daily Helmsman. Action News 5 News Anchor Joe Birch
will serve as the emcee for the event. Cocktail reception will begin at 6 pm followed
by dinner and the awards program at 7 pm. Ticket prices are $55 per individual and

Class of 1962 Reunion Friday, October 19, 9:30 am Celebrate the Centennial Homecoming weekend with the Class of 1962! The 50th Anniversary
Reunion will begin at 9:30 am with a meet and greet at the Alumni Center. Board the
motorcoach at 10:10 am to the home of University President Shirley Raines for the
Half Century Club induction ceremony, medallion presentation and brunch. At noon,
enjoy a motorcoach tour of campus points of interest. The Golden Reception will be
held at 5 pm in the Alumni Center for classmates from 1962 and all previous years.
The cost is $30 for Alumni Association members or $35 for not-yet members. Reservations

Alumni Association's Centennial Homecoming Pep Rally Friday, October 19 at 6:30 pm Continue the Homecoming celebration at the Association's Pep Rally featuring 100 entries for 100 years on Friday, October 19, 6:30 pm, with special guests Coach Justin Fuente, Athletic Director Tom Bowen, and University
President Shirley Raines, as well as the Alumni Association's True Blue Tradition
Award (awarded annually to those who have made significant contributions to creating
and continuing traditions at the U of M) and the Parent of the Year Award (presented
to parents of current students through a nomination process). Located at the end of
the parade route at the Plaza Fountain near the Administration Building. Food provided

Luther C. McClellan Alumni Chapter Step Show Friday, October 19, immediately following the pep rally The Luther C. McClellan Black Alumni Chapter will join in the Centennial Homecoming
fun with their annual Alumni Step Show showcasing stepping skills of current students
and returning alumni on Friday, October 19 in the Rose Theatre. The cost is $10 for
Alumni Association members and students (with Membership Card or Student ID) and $15
for not-yet-members. Proceeds benefit the LCM Scholarship Fund.

2012 Memphis Research and Innovation Expo Save The Date: The 2nd annual Memphis Research and Innovation Expo will be Thursday, September 27, from 9 am - 3 pm at the FedEx Institute of Technology. The Expo will feature 28
booths showcasing the achievements of leading researchers from the University of Memphis,
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and Baptist Memorial Health Care as well as
innovations from companies such as Buckman and Transnetyx. General Stan McChrystal
will be the keynote speaker at 9:30 in the Zone. Citing stories from his career,
McChrystal will speak about leadership and management strategy, concentrating on openness,
