Tiger Basketball Pre-Game Reception Join the University of Memphis Alumni Association and the Washington D.C. Alumni Club
at the Verizon Center on Thursday, December 22, at 4:30 pm as we host a pre-game reception for all Tiger fans and family before
our Tigers take on the Georgetown Hoyas. Complimentary buffet, drinks and a cash bar
will be available. Admission is complimentary to those with a valid ticket to the

100 Years, 100 Women Women have inspired the University of Memphis throughout our century. Help us choose
one hundred who have influenced our success by nominating one who inspired you! In
honor of the Center for Research on Women’s 30th Anniversary and 100 years of The
University of Memphis, CROW, African and African American Studies, and the Department
of History will host an event celebrating 100 women who inspired our century. Their
achievements will be heralded throughout the evening, and their names will be remembered
for generations to come. If you know of a woman—past or present—who made a difference

Education Alumni Chapter
The College of Education Alumni Chapter installed new officers this month. Mary Keife
Hyland (MS ’96), who recently retired as Associate Head of School for Lausanne Collegiate
School, and who has been a facilitator for All Kinds of Minds, will serve as chapter
president. Randy McPherson (BS ’81, MS ’84, Ed.D. ’94), Director of Counseling Services
with Memphis City Schools, and recently named national high school counselor of the
year, will serve as vice president. Finally, Annetra Peete (BS ’05), fourth grade
teacher at Riverwood Elementary, will serve as secretary. The chapter has experienced
remarkable growth over the last year, and is looking forward to growing even more

In 2012, the College of Education will celebrate 100 years of educating teachers.
To commemorate this occasion, the College of Education Alumni Chapter will honor faculty
and alumni from each of the 10 decades at a Centennial Event in April 2012. We invite
you to submit a nomination for the College of Education Hall of Fame. Deadline for nominations is January 27.

Young Alumni Committee The Young Alumni Committee hosted its Fifth Annual True Blue 5K on November 4. Over
500 alumni and friends of the University participated as runners and spectators, setting
a new record! Through this race, the Committee was able to raise significant funds
for their Legacy Scholarship, which is awarded annually to University of Memphis graduate
students who received their undergraduate degrees here. It is the vision of the Committee
to be ambassadors for this University within the Memphis community and across the
country. This race provides a wonderful means of cultivating meaningful relationships
with students, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as other Memphians, in a fun, family-friendly
atmosphere. Mark your calendars for the 2012 Centennial Edition of the Race on November
2.
The Young Alumni Committee will cheer on the Tigers against Southern Miss at a watch
party on Wednesday, February 1, at 7 pm. Check your inbox soon for details on the

New Benefit for Alumni and Students: Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Have an idea for a new business venture, but need assistance putting the details together?
The Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is a new service on the University
of Memphis campus that is available for all students and alumni free of charge. Beginning
with idea generation and continuing through product launch, they can help develop
cutting edge solutions. Available services include: idea development, technical assistance,
skills training, mentoring, networking support, legal advice, financial guidance,
