Pouncer's Pals

Healthy U/Midday Moves

UMAR
Enjoy breakfast with the UMAR Book Club on Tuesday, January 28, at 11 am at The Green Grove before discussing this month's literary work, The Girls of Atomic City: The Untold Story of the Women Who Helped Win World War II by Denise Kiernan. On the first Tuesday of each month, the UMAR Breakfast Bunch gathers at 9 am for a casual breakfast at the Perkins Restaurant & Bakery located in the Eastgate Shopping Center, at 5112 Park Avenue. Lambuth Alumni Chapter
Are you a Tiger fan with a child 12 years or younger?  University of Memphis Football Coach Justin Fuente and members of the Tiger Football team will meet at the Lambuth campus in Jackson, Tennessee to host a football clinic for any children wishing to participate.  Autographs, pictures, and treats will be available for children wishing to participate!  The event in tentatively set for April 19.  More details to follow about this exciting event.

The Lambuth Alumni Chapter is beginning a new season of projects and events to involve Lambuth alumni!  If you graduated from Lambuth University and are interested in being a part of this exciting time, please contact emma.elliott@memphis.edu or 800-678-TRAX. A current project of the Lambuth chapter is the implementation of a Lambuth Heritage Room in the library of the Lambuth campus. U of M Announces Application Fee Waiver Program
The University of Memphis announced today that it is waiving its application fee to increase access to education for all interested high school students. “We want to assist students in achieving their educational goals, so the University is implementing a first-time freshman application fee waiver for those who find the application fee to be a financial hardship,” said Betty Huff, vice provost of Enrollment Services.

Students may obtain an application fee waiver by submitting one of the following documents:

  • National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) Application Fee Waiver Request Form (available on the NACAC homepage,) or
  • ACT/SAT Fee Waiver, or
  • Evidence of participation in the Federal Free or Reduced Lunch Program, or
  • Evidence of status as a ward of the state or placement into foster care.

The current $25 application fee will still be required of students who do not satisfy the criteria for the waiver. Questions regarding the application fee waiver should be directed to recruitment@memphis.edu or 901-678-2169.

Grand Opening of the Veterans Resource Center

CIUM, U of M and CBU to Host "An Oriental Monsoon" 
The Confucius Institute at the University of Memphis (CIUM), is proud to announce a special presentation by China’s Hangzhou Normal University. "An Oriental Monsoon" showcases Chinese dancers, Chinese instrumentalists, solo vocalists, and more. The event is on Sunday, February 9, at 7 pm at the Theater on the CBU campus. Seats are limited to 500. The program is free and open to the public. The CIUM is one of less than ten location HNU will visit this year in the United States.
