Alumni Association Spotlight: CDR Michael (BA '89) and Elizabeth (BA '88) Harber

Family and friends gathered to wish CDR Michael “Pearl” Harber (BA ’89) and his wife Elizabeth Peacock Harber (BA ’88) “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on March 2nd after 23 years of Navy service.  Retiring here in Memphis completes the circle for this TRUE BLUE couple. Mike attended U of M on a Navy ROTC scholarship, serving as Midshipman commander in the 2nd class to graduate from what was then a new program at the University.

During his career, Mike flew the carrier-based A-6 Intruder and the land-based EP-3 Aries II, served on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, and posted to Iraq with the Army’s 2nd Stryker Calvary Regiment in 2007. The family has lived in Florida, Virginia, Nevada, Spain, and Maine, but has called Memphis home since Mike’s transfer to Millington in 2002.  Their daughter Christine, a sophomore at the University of Memphis, is a 3rd generation Tiger.  Son Sean, 17, attends Christian Brother’s High School. Elizabeth is a middle school teacher at Snowden School.

Mike and Elizabeth are both Life Members of the U of M Alumni Association. In addition, living as they do along the “paw print trail” on Central Avenue, they are season football season ticket holders and are excited to see what Coach Fuentes will bring to the upcoming football season.
