public recognition for the way he or she has helped you in your education. Nominate

The Law Alumni Board will host its annual Judicial Reception honoring the judiciary, recent graduates of the School of Law, and the Tennessee
Supreme Court on Wednesday, November 2, at The Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, 1 North Front Street. During the Reception,
the Board will recognize the ascension of Judge Bernice Donald to the U.S. Sixth Circuit
Court of Appeals and unveil the formal portrait of Dean Emeritus James Smoot. To RSVP

Nursing Alumni Chapter Halloween Bash The Loewenberg School of Nursing Alumni Chapter will be hosting a Halloween Bash on Saturday, October 22 from 8 pm to 1 am at Ernestine & Hazel’s on S. Main. Come dress up in your favorite costume

Each year UMAR gives the Traces Award to a University retiree chosen by the three most recent winners for exemplifying
the concept of remaining active in scholarly and/or civic pursuits into retirement.
The award metaphorically refers to “remaining in the traces,” a concept dating to
farm days. This year’s deadline for nominations for the Traces Award is November 8. Nominations should be in the form of a letter that details the ongoing activities
which qualify the nominee for the award. Please send letters to Dr. Mary Ellen Pitts,
UMAR President, at 8733 River Hollow Drive, Cordova, TN 38016-1649. This award will
be presented at the UMAR Holiday Brunch on December 13.
UMAR has reserved a block of 25 tickets at $30 each for the Friday, February 17, 2012

Journalism Alumni Club Outstanding Alumni Awards The Outstanding Journalism Alumni Awards Dinner will be held the evening of Thursday, October 27, in the Tennessee Ballroom at the Holiday Inn on campus. The Charles E. Thornton
Award will be presented to Will King (BA ’74) of CNN and journalist Richard Copley (BS ’69). The Herbert Lee Williams Award will be given to former professor L. Dupre Long. Also, the inaugural Outstanding Young Alumni Award will be presented to author Johanna Edwards (BA ’01). The program will feature guest speaker Natalie Allen, anchor for CNN International and former co-anchor for WREG-TV in Memphis. Emmy Award-winning
Meteorologist Ron Childers with Action News 5 will be the emcee for the event. Cocktail reception will begin
at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and awards program at 7 pm Tickets are $50 per person
