first “Excellence in Legal Community Leadership Award” this October. He also received
the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Memphis in 2002. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Memphis Rotary Club in 2007 and has been on the faculty of the National Judicial
College at the University of Nevada Reno. Childers has been a frequent lecturer and
speaker at continuing legal education seminars in Tennessee and throughout the nation.
When asked why remaining connected to the University of Memphis was so important,
Childers stated that both the University and the Law School, "have given me so much.
They have enabled me to do my life's work, both on a local and national level. Coming
from a humble background, I wouldn't have been able to achieve the level of success
that I have without the University of Memphis. I am very proud to be able to give
back to the School and help insure that our students have the same resources and opportunities
that I did."
