4th Annual True Blue 5K
| On November 6, the Tigers face Tennessee at the Liberty Bowl, but the Young Alumni
Committee wants to get fans on campus, hearts pumping and pulses racing before the
stadium gates ever open. The 4th Annual True Blue 5K presented by First Tennessee will take place on Friday, November 5 at 7 pm. "Runners can look forward to a big pep rally. Cheerleaders and the band will be
there, and possibly some Tiger celebrity alumni," says race director Jamie Russel
(BBA '02). And the festivities don't end at the finish line. Awards, special gifts,
and music will follow the race.
In addition to awards for the winners of each category, a Tiger Spirit Award and a
very special Tigers gift will be given to the runner who best represents the U of
M Tigers throughout the entire race with a costume, face paint, attitude, etc. Also
the largest participating business or community organization will receive a trophy.**
In addition, the largest participating U of M student/alumni/faculty organization
or department will receive $250 to be given to the charity of your choice.** **Be sure to enter your group name when registering! Participation will be based on
pre-registered entries.
Proceeds from the race support the Young Alumni Committee's events and fund the Young
Alumni Legacy Scholarship, a new scholarship created for U of M graduate students.
The 2010 Legacy Scholarship recipients, Alex Shipman (BA '07) and Kathryn Murphy (BBA
'09), will be recognized at the race.
Runners, walkers, and any cheering fans are welcome! About 200 runners and walkers
participated in the first race in 2007, but the number of race participants have grown
every year. "Our second year we had about 350, and this year we're expecting around
500," said Russell.
Don't wait! Sign up today! Alumni Association and Future Alumni of Memphis members receive a discount on their
entry fee! Click here to register for the True Blue 5K or click here to learn more about the Young Alumni Committee.
