Alumni Day at FedExPark (Baseball & Softball)
The University of Memphis Alumni Association invites Alumni to come out and support the Women’s Softball Team and the Men’s Baseball team for Alumni Day at the Park on Saturday, March 16. The Women’s Softball team will play Tulsa at  1:00 pm at the Tigers Softball Complex followed by the baseball team's game against Kent State at 2:00 pm at FedExPark. Come join your Alumni Association and cheer on your Memphis Tigers. For more information contact or 901-678-5686.

On Friday, March 22, at 12:00 noon, join UMAR members to hear Rabbi Micah Greenstein, who Newsweek states is one of America’s 50 most influential rabbis, talk about how “creation is ever-evolving, unfolding, and brimming with infinite possibilities.” Lunch will follow on-site in the Waffle Shop. Please note: UMAR members will meet at 11:30 am to park at St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral on Poplar Ave. and then ride the shuttle to the event from there. Space will be limited, so please RSVP by March 15 to or 901/678-1333.

Enjoy breakfast with the UMAR Book Club on Tuesday, March 26, at 11 am at Brother Juniper's before discussing this month's literary work, The Greater Journey by David McCullough. The book club meets on the fourth Tuesday of every other month.

On the first Tuesday of each month, the UMAR Breakfast Bunch gathers at 9 am for a casual breakfast at the Perkins Restaurant & Bakery located in the Eastgate Shopping Center, at 5112 Park Avenue. The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 5. All UMAR members and U of M retirees are welcome. The cost of breakfast is on your own.

The UMAR Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, April 23,  to hear Tanya Groves speak about exotic plants. Location TBD. The Garden Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of every other month. For more information about the Garden Club or to RSVP, please contact Sheryl Maxwell at or 901/755-2131.

Celebrate Wolf River Dayz on Friday, April 26, at 10:00 am. In commemoration of Arbor Day, UMAR will partake in a guided tour of at the Wolf River Conservancy Boardwalk at Rossville, TN. Director of Education for the organization, Cathy Justis, will lead the walk; lunch on your own will follow at Wolf River Café. Save the Date: UMAR will hosts its annual Spring Picnic on Sunday, May 19, at 3 pm at the home of Agnes Stark. There will be a wine tasting and a silent auction benefiting the UMAR Scholarship Fund. Additional information to follow.

Law Alumni Chapter

The Law Alumni Chapter will sponsor University of Memphis Law Review’s annual Symposium, "Breaking the Silence: Legal Voices in the Fight Against Human Trafficking", which will be held on Friday, March 22, from 9 am to 5 pm at the Cecil C. On Saturday, April 6, the Law Alumni Chapter will sponsor Race Judicata 5K Run/Walk at Mississippi River Park at 51 North Riverside Drive. Check-in is at 4 pm and race begins at 5 pm. Food and live music follow the race! the cost is $20 for early registration (before April 5). Race Judicata benefits Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS), which provides free legal service to the elderly and low income families. The Law Alumni Chapter will co-host the Law Week Launch Party, a gathering of local legal organizations, on Friday, April 26, from 5 to 7 pm in Court Square. This free event will feature food by the BBQ Shop and music by WALRUS. Members of the legal community are invited to attend, and are asked to bring a canned good or monetary donation to support the Mid-South Food Bank. For more information contact or 901/678-ALUM.

On Tuesday, April 16, the Herff College of Engineering Alumni Chapter will present its Outstanding Alumni Awards at the Herff College of Engineering's 25th Annual Awards Banquet, located at the U of M Holiday Inn at 6:30 pm. The Chapter will honor Arif Shakeei (BSME '77), former CEO of Western Digital Corporation. The Chapter will hold a silent auction before the dinner to benefit its book scholarship fund. Million Meals Challenge

The University of Memphis, Ole Miss and Mississippi State are joining Kroger in the fight against hunger in Tennessee and Mississippi. Visit to select Memphis and make a monetary donation, or donate food at select Memphis Kroger stores, various on campus events, and food drives at the last Tiger football and basketball games.
