Valentin Oman
Austrian (St. Stefan, 1935)
“Wiener Fragmente”
screenprint
Much of Oman’s art addresses the plight of the ethnic minority of Carinthian Slovenes
in Austria, where their language and customs are threatened by the German-speaking
and oriented majority. Educated in Vienna at the University of Applied Arts and in
Ljubljana, Slovenia, Oman is a painter, sculptor, printmaker and creator of public
art installations. His recent public art consists of the disappearing Slovenian place
names of the Carinthian region cast in metal.
