This interactive installation focuses on the symbolic nature of stars. It is intended
to provoke contemplation that goes beyond oneself through stimulating visuals, intense
audio and a profound narrative. The installation is "relational," or designed to engage
the audience, because the concept behind the piece is inclusive of all mankind. Furthermore,
the reactions, internal dialogues and conclusions of each viewer is essential, as
they attest to the validity of truth in the same manner that verbal responses signify
a previous act of listening. Whether concrete or unworldly, the realization of truth
is inevitable – even if it's only realized subconsciously.
"Descendants" is an active, laser installation that initially explores the Biblical
significance of God's declaration to Abraham in the book of Genesis. He tells Abraham,
"I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them
all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed."
(Genesis 22:17) Abraham, who had just passed a test from God, proved his obedience
and reverence to Him. As a result, God was pleased and promised to bless and multiply
Abraham's lineage in comparison to the innumerable number of stars.
