academic performance last fall, by both making the Dean’s List.
Cadets Matthew Allen, Adam Casey, Andres Tellez, and Sane Kruger are recognized for
scoring over 300 on the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT).

In keeping with one of the Army's time honored traditions, seniors serve their fellow
Tiger Cadets a very wholesome Thanksgiving meal.

These Cadets took the oath of office contracting to become officers in the United
States Army. They were officially welcomed to the team during our fall contracting
ceremony.
During The University of Memphis Football game against SMU this Saturday 24 September
our Cadets and participating National Guard Soldiers performed the Color Guard for
the National Anthem to start the game off and volunteered to be the take down crew
for the "Tiger Head", that the players run out of to enter the field (click image

Last Thursday 22 Sep, our Cadets learned the basics of Individual Movement Techniques,
or IMT. They learned how to low crawl, high crawl, and learned how to move tactically
as a two person team. Once training was complete they finished up with a very motivating
IMT platoon challenge event. (click image for larger view)

Tiger Cadets supporting the Boy Scouts at their annual fundraiser at Willows Sporting
Clays in Tunica, MS. Cadets scored the competitors and even had the opportunity to
fire some weapons. Willows loves the professionalism of our Tiger Cadets and requests
their support each year. A great fundraiser and community outreach event!
Field Leadership Reaction Course
Cadets participated in a Field Leadership Reaction Course (FLRC) for leadership lab
on Thursday 14 April. Cadets were given planks, boxes, ropes, and water cans to negotiate
obstacles. They learned the importance of teamwork and creative thinking to accomplish
a mission. A great lab to prepare the MS IIIs for LDAC!
Tiger Cadets and Cadre Annual Dining
On Saturday 9 April, Tiger Cadets and Cadre enjoyed their annual dining out in the
university’s ballroom. A great evening full of fines and trips to the grog. Congratulations
to our MS IVs and MS Vs who outdid themselves with a terrible tasting grog while honoring
their respective branches. MC Cadet Dickey and Mr. Vice Cadet Casey did a great job.

Joint Awards Ceremony
Joint Awards Ceremony – The University of Memphis hosted its annual awards ceremony
for their three service ROTC programs on 5 April. Over 100 awards were presented to
Cadets and Midshipmen for their academic and military accomplishments. Representatives
from associations such as the Military Order of World Wars, Military Officers Association
of America, Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America, Daughters of the American
Revolution, and Sons of the American Revolution presented their awards to deserving
Cadets and Midshipmen. Ambassador John Dyess, Army Reserve Ambassador from the great
state of Tennessee, served as guest speaker where he addressed the importance of service
to country and community to the future generation of military officers. A great day
to be a Tiger Cadet and Midshipmen!
Marine Corps Endurance Race
Two teams competed in the Marine Corps Endurance Race on Saturday 2 April. They ran
2 miles with sandbags, 2 miles with a log, carried ammo cans, did another 2 miles
with rucksacks, then finished with 200 pull-ups. Our teams came in fourth and ninth
places out of 18 teams. Congratulations to Cadets Coneo, Stanford, Allen, Dale, Pernia,
Bendall, C Ford, and Liley. An impressive physical feat!

The UofM is always hosting great events to bring Tiger students together – a luau
on the front lawn of our Living Learning Complex (LLC). Students enjoyed the rock
wall, dunking booth, shooting hoops, a bungee run, and other activities. Thanks to
our local Army recruiters for providing the climbing wall.
The colorguard had a great surprise when rendering honors for Andy Roddick's tennis
match.

CDT LEWALLEN TAKES THE FINAL STEP INTO THE OFFICER CORPS
On Friday, 17 DEC 2010, the Tiger Battalion made its latest contribution to the Officer
Corps in the United States Army. 2LT Lewallen took his Oath of Office to protect and
defend the Constitution of the United States. His mother Mrs. Pat and father Jim pinned
the Gold Bars to his uniform while his two Grandfathers, both military veterans, attached
his epaulets to his service shirt. 2LT Lewallen holds a bachelor's degree in history
from the University of Memphis. Congratulations LT!!
