Scholarship Opportunities
As an Army ROTC cadet, there are many benefits one can have. Financially, there
are Federal Scholarships that can pay from 2 to 4 years of a cadet’s college career.
There are also ROTC Scholarships funded by the university that will pay tuition for
one semester without any obligation.
Pay scale for Stipend
- 1st year $300 per month
- 2nd year $350 per month
- 3rd year $450 per month
- 4th year $500 per month
Students who register for the Army ROTC without a Federal Scholarship have no obligation
to the Army until officially contracting. Contracting typically occurs at the beginning
of the cadet’s junior year. Upon contracting, students can receive biweekly stipend
and a book stipend.
For more information, check out the Official Scholarship Site .
Non Financial Benefits
There are also other benefits that are not financially based. Contracted cadets are
permitted to have a cadet military identification card, which gains access to military
posts. Cadets have the ability to go to Airborne School, Air Assault School, Mountain Warfare School, along with other training schools. For more information of summer schools, please
visit the “Summer Training” section.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
The Army partners with companies, corporations, and public sector agencies to provide
quality employees trained in a variety of degreed skills. After contracting, you will
select a position with a PaYS partner employer if you plan to go into the Reserve
Component (Army Reserve or National Guard). You'll sign and receive a copy of the
Statement of Understanding, which contains details pertinent to the position you selected.
PaYS allows contracted ROTC Cadets who intend to commission in the Reserve Component
to turn their college degree and Army training and experience into a full-time position
with a civilian organization.

Partners in the Memphis Area:
Living Learning Community
The ROTC program has been awarded space for up to 40 students in the new residence
hall recently constructed on Patterson Ave. The program combines classroom and out
of class activities to enhance the program’s ability to develop “Total Officers,”
promote service, and support the program’s educational mission. The program and students
are supported by a total of 20 ROTC Cadre/Faculty members. This new Living Learning
Community joins the Honors, Emerging Leaders, and Music Living Learning Communities
in the new residence hall. The building opened for Summer 2010 and houses 496 students.
In addition to double occupancy rooms and shared private bathrooms, the new hall has
two classrooms and music practice rooms.
This will represent the 6th partnership between Academic Affairs and Residence Life/Student
Affairs in the creation of Living Learning Communities. Currently the University
has Living Learning Communities for Honors Students, Architecture and Design, the
Emerging Leader Program, Foreign Languages, and a partnership with ACAD 1100 called
Freshmen First. Starting in Fall 2010 we added a Music Living Learning Community
and now ROTC.
For more information about submitting a proposal for a Living Learning Community,
please contact the committee co-chairs - Dr. Shannon Blanton, Vice Provost for Undergraduate
Programs (sblanton@memphis.edu) or Peter Groenendyk, Associate Director for Residence
Life & Dining Services (petercg@memphis.edu).
