Professor of Military Science/Battalion Commander:
LTC Kimberly Cowen is the Professor of Military Science and Battalion Commander.
She is a 1989 graduate of the University of Connecticut and received her commission
in Military Intelligence from Officer Candidate School. She holds a bachelor’s degree
in Slavic & East European Studies and master’s degree in Military Arts & Sciences.
She deployed to Iraq in 2003 as the Combined Joint Task Force-7 Collection Manager
and again in 2005 as Executive Officer for a Military Intelligence Battalion. |

LTC Cowen

Senior Military Science Instructor:
Master Sergeant Scott Juszkiewicz is the Senior Military Instructor. He enlisted
in the United States Army in May 1993 as a fire support specialist. During his 18
years of service, he has held numerous leadership positions from being a Forward Observer,
Brigade Fire Support Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant and First Sergeant and as an Operations
Sergeant Major at the Brigade and Post level. He has been assigned to the 25th and 4th Infantry
Divisions, 1-506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, Operations
Group at the Joint Readiness Training Center, and the 10th Mountain Division and has
deployed to Haiti, Afghanistan, and twice to Iraq.

Military Science Instructor:
SFC Venson Herron is the Military Science I Instructor and Training Noncommissioned
Officer. He is a Sergeant First Class with 18 years of active Army service. He has
served in every position in the infantry from Rifleman to Platoon Sergeant. He deployed
to Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia in 1995 as a Cable Team Chief with Task Force-72nd
Signal Battalion. In 2003, he deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) as a Squad
Leader with Task Force 2-69 Armor and again to OIF with Task Force 3-69 Armor as a
Platoon Sergeant.

Asst. Professor of Military Science/ MS II Instructor:
Mr. Joe Kilner is the MS II instructor and Training Officer. He received his commission
as an Engineer Officer in 2004 after graduating from Providence College. His previous
duty positions include Unit Movement Officer, Horizontal Construction Platoon Leader,
Sapper Company Executive Officer, Iraqi Security Forces Cell Operations Officer, Battalion
Plans Officer, and Engineer Systems Integrator. He has completed two tours in Iraq
with the 46th Engineer Battalion and the 4th Brigade, 10th Mountain Division.

Asst. Professor of Military Science/ Recruiting Operations Officer:
Mr. Richard Bragg is the Recruiting Operations Officer. He enlisted into the Georgia
Army National Guard in 2005 and served as a Field Artilleryman. He received his commission
in 2011 after graduating from Georgia Southern University and is now an Aviation Platoon
Leader in the Georgia Army National Guard.

Supply Tech:
Mr. Cassius Davis is the Tiger Battalion’s Supply Technician. He retired as a Sergeant
First Class, with a total of 20 years of active military service. His last assignment
before retiring was as the S4 for the Army Reserve Officer Training Program in the
northeastern part of the United States. Mr. Davis has been with The University of
Memphis Army ROTC since August 2005.

Human Resource Technician:
Mr. Noah Lowe is the Tiger Battalion’s Human Resources Technician. He retired as a
Sergeant First Class, with a total of 24 years of active military service and an additional
6 years in the National Guard and the Army Reserve. His military duties include Infantry,
Supply and Human Resources. He has been with The University of Memphis Army ROTC since
August 2007.

Noah Lowe

Battalion Secretary:
Ms. Leslie Musick is the university secretary for the Department of Military Science.
Ms. Musick began with the department in 2009. Prior to coming to our department, she
served with the university for 16 years. She graduated from The University of Memphis
in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts cum laude majoring in sociology. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
at Baptist College of Health Sciences.
