BIOGRAPHY

Cedar Nordbye, Associate Professor is an artist working across disciplines of performance, installation, writing, and printmaking to address topics of conflict, idea construction, language, arguments, geography, and the interrelationships between seemingly unrelated things. He is the founder of a mural team called Memphis Mural Brigade and is deeply interested in collaboration and issues of community. His works, which often involve friendly arguments with strangers, have taken place at the Louvre, Death Valley, the Empire State Building and a line of locations along the 35th parallel. In the past three years he has utilized home-construction materials in projects which partner with Habitat for Humanity and the Fuller Center in Memphis, Tennessee; Lexington, Kentucky; Hammond, Louisiana; and Las Peñitas, Nicaragua. Raised in California in an often itinerant family, Nordbye was educated at Hampshire College and the University of Iowa.
