Research Interest

My research interests include defining the very early events of influenza virus entry and host defense and testing drugs to develop new therapeutic options for the control of infectious diseases by manipulating the host rather than the pathogen.  This involves quite a bit of cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, and microbiology. I use fluorescent microscopy and real-time PCR for my studies alongside classic infectious disease models, but I also enjoy developing or adapting new techniques to aid our research. Previous projects on which I've participated have included studies concerning West Nile Virus vectors and descriptions of Coxiella burnetii in an immunocompromised mouse model.
