Sharyne Connell joined the University of Memphis staff in June of 2011 to serve as
the Athletic Academic Counselor for football in the Center for Athletic Academic Services.
Prior to joining the University of Memphis staff, Sharyne served two years as the
Assistant Director and one year as an Academic Coordinator in the Student Athlete
Academic Center at Florida International University. While at FIU, Connell worked
with women’s soccer, women’s swimming/diving, women’s golf, women’s tennis, and men’s
soccer while being an Academic Coordinator and then as an Assistant Director, she
worked with football and baseball. She oversaw the academic advising component for
six advisors and served as the point person for completing all transfer evaluations
for prospective student athletes. Connell also served as the academic liaison to her
entire staff, updating them on things like curriculum changes.
In addition to serving as academic counselor, Sharyne is a member of the National
Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A).
While at Eastern Illinois University, Sharyne was a four year letter winner for the
women’s soccer team from 2002-2005, earning ESPN Academic All District, all conference
three times, and appearing in the NCAA College Cup three times as well. She is originally
from Schaumburg, Illinois and enjoys traveling, watching movies, running, playing
soccer, and reading. She resides in Memphis with her two dogs, Wrigley and Pippen.
