Kimya Massey joined the University of Memphis staff in May of 2009 to serve as the Assistant Director in the Center for Athletic Academic Services and Athletic Academic Counselor for the men’s soccer team.  Prior to joining the University of Memphis staff, Kimya served three years as the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services at Indiana University.  Kimya oversaw the academic advising staff for all sports except for football.  He also advised men’s basketball, women’s basketball and baseball.  In addition, Kimya served as a liaison to campus constituents and served as a point of contact for coaching staffs regarding academic-related issues.  Massey also worked with APR data and academic improvement plans in addition to creating a training program for interns and full-time staff.  He was an assistant instructor for HPER-R 100: Self-Leadership and Life Skills.  Kimya now serves as an instructor at Memphis for ACAD 1100: Introduction to the University.

Prior to Indiana, Kimya worked at Michigan State University where he worked with football and women's basketball, served as Assistant Life Skills Director and oversaw the Learning Enhancement and Academic Programs (LEAP).  He also served as an academic coordinator for wrestling, men's golf, and men's and women's tennis, among others. 

Massey is active in the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A).  He served as the Region III Director from 2006-2008 and currently serves on the Strategic Planning Committee as well as the Legislative Services Committee. 

Kimya was a four year letter winner for the Michigan State baseball team from 1997-2000, winning the Most Improved Award during his junior year and Craig Hendricks Sportsmanship award his senior year.  The rest of his career was a disaster.  Kimya is originally from Van Nuys, California, but grew up in Southern Oregon and Michigan.  His hobbies include running, playing golf, reading, collecting wolf paraphernalia, Greek mythology and listening to techno music.

Academic Highlight

Men's Tennis was recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team, posting a team GPA of 3.43 for the 2008-09 academic year (3.20 or higher is required for nomination).
