For Tiffany Rose, a senior journalism and public relations major at the U of M, landing
an internship this spring was the start to her budding public relations career. Rose
is currently completing an internship with the Brooks Museum, working in the College
Group department to promote the museum for college student events. Her internship
includes writing news releases and utilizing social media sites such as Facebook to
get the word out about her upcoming events at the museum.
Rose said “My first event at the Brooks Museum was a success, a total of 45 people
showed up for Arts Trivia Night. I was not expecting the crowd because it was held
when the Tigers played against Missouri, but students came to the event before the
tip-off.”
Rose credits some of her success at her internship to her time working with Career
Services. She has met with a Career Advisor on several occasions to review her resume,
get advice on writing a cover letter, and has utilized eRecruiting. Rose states, “I
have learned to use all the helpful sources and tools that the University of Memphis
Career Services provides and have learned to NETWORK!!”
Her advice to fellow students: “My advice is to utilize career services and eRecruiting.
These sources give helpful tips on finding a job and interviewing for a job. I am
so glad that the U of M offers services like this especially since the economy is
at a downfall. The helpful tips from career advisors give students like me a chance
to make cover letters and resumes stand out from other candidates.”
