Purpose
In support of the academic program at the University of Memphis, the Cataloging Department
builds and maintains a bibliographic database to enable users of the library to locate
materials in all formats in the library's collections. The department catalogs, classifies,
and processes library material in all formats acquired by the University Libraries,
its branches, and the Earth Sciences Library of the Center for Earthquake Research
and Information. Members of the department participate in the Library of Congress'
NACO program to create name authority records for the national database, and the department
serves as the Coordinator of the Tennessee NACO Funnel. The library also hosts the
catalogs of Jackson State Community College, Dyersburg State Community College, LeMoyne-Owen
College, and the University of Memphis Law School Library.
