Welcome to the College of Communication and Fine Arts!
During CCFA's more than 30-year history at the University of Memphis, we have advanced
our arts and communication disciplines in many ways.
The Harvard Business Review recently revealed that “the hottest credentials in the world of business” could very
well be an arts degree. More than half of CCFA’s 2,000 majors are studying in the
performing and fine arts. However, we feel that the "hottest credentials" can also
be found in our communication and journalism majors. Within the fields of electronic
journalism, digital video production, or the combination of rhetoric and applied communication
in the health care industry, students are studying materials, using equipment, and
producing projects that we could only have predicted in our wildest dreams in 1977.
With the help of many friends, alumni, and very hard working faculty and staff, we
have developed reputable and sophisticated programs, such as art, architecture, music,
theatre, and dance, as well as communication disciplines of rhetoric, public relations,
applied communication, mass media, film and video production, and journalism. We encourage
the increasing interdependence of all of these programs in the 21st century.
Our faculty includes recognized leaders in their fields who exhibit, perform, and
display their creativity, knowledge and expertise in many ways.
Our unique blend of academic and artistic pursuits encourages ideas and collaborative
endeavors that create a rich, diverse, and exciting learning environment. Whether
in studios, classrooms, media labs, galleries, theatres, or recital halls, CCFA is
alive with activity!
I extend a warm invitation for you to visit us and explore in person the many facets
of CCFA, and why we are so proud of our more than 30-year heritage.
