The Professional Development Assignment (PDA) is an academic sabbatical. It gives
faculty members the opportunity to renew themselves. It is a period of creative activity
aimed at fostering professional expertise.
In that sense, Professional Development Assignments are a break from the ordinary
as well as a time of intense work: An intellectual retreat from the everyday academic
responsibilities and an opportunity to engage more deeply in research and creative
activity.
Granting academic sabbaticals is mutually beneficial for the College and the faculty.
We believe that part of providing our students with knowledgeable and engaged professors,
is allowing those professors to advance professionally and renew their perspectives
during a Professional Development Assignment.
In order to be considered for a PDA, faculty members submit a proposal to CCFA's Associate
Dean. The proposals are reviewed by the College Council for Graduate Studies and Research,
which then makes recommendations to the College's Dean.
