alumni profile

Why did you choose your major?

I love writing, but find myself more in reality than creative composition. I actually had the best teacher in high school English who encouraged me to try journalism rather than marketing so that I would have more opportunity to write.

Why did you choose the UofM?
Not only was it close to home, but it had the best public relations program and the strongest relationship between PRSA and PRSSA chapters. Since I was going to college in order to pursue a career in PR, I wanted to be in a program that promoted that type of access.

Which professor had the greatest impact on you? Why?
Dr. Rick Fischer met with me before I came to the University of Memphis and then encouraged me through every step until graduation. He spent lots of time simply talking with me about my courses, career path and life in general.

What do you know now that you wished you knew as a student?
How digital, and specifically mobile, would change the world for consumers. I might have spent more time in web development.

What experience did you gain as a student that prepared you for your career?
As PRSSA President, I learned a great deal about working within a team to accomplish a goal. Planning events, volunteer opportunities and outreach efforts for the organization has translated very well for my career.

What is your current job?
Sr. Digital Content Strategist at KBM Group. I help clients engage with customers, generate leads and achieve business goals through an integrated approach to web content, social media and SEO.

Are you in the career you envisioned for yourself as a student? If not, what did you think you'd be doing?
My plan was to complete my undergraduate in journalism and then transfer those researching and writing skills into law school. But, I had so much fun in my courses on public relations and marketing strategies that I decided to stick with what I loved.

What is most rewarding about your job?
Being in an ever-changing industry, I continually have new opportunities to explore new technologies, digital trends and industry developments.

What are your hobbies?
Cooking, travelling and Pinterest-ing.

How do you keep a healthy work/life balance?
I try to live wholly in the moment, so when I'm at work, I am fully vested in work, and when I'm not, I am focused on the rest of life.

What is your proudest achievement?
I have two ongoing achievements–their names are Kylee and John Archer.

If they made a movie about your life, who would play you?
Jennifer Lawrence. Mostly because, is there anything that girl can't do?

How would you like to be remembered?
As a woman who loved Jesus, married the man of her dreams, raised two amazing children and made a difference in her community.
