2009 Bandmasters Championship Set for October 31

The University of Memphis Band Alumni Chapter has set the date for its 2009 high school marching band contest. The 2009 Bandmasters Championship is scheduled for Saturday, October 31.
The competition will be held at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, which is also the home of the University of Memphis Tigers football team. Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships for the Mighty Sound of the South, the University of Memphis marching band.

Originally known as The Mid-South Invitational, The Bandmasters Championship began in 1963. The Band Alumni Chapter took on the responsibility for the event in the 1990s and has hosted marching bands from Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Alabama. The 2007 and 2008 competitions, with the help of FOX 13, were televised on WKNO-TV Channel 10 several times.
