Written and directed by Stephen Hancock, associate professor of theatre at the U of M, The Horror of the Little Family Farce presents a zany family of characters. For Tina and her younger brother Sam, an afternoon of play laced with a heavy dose of imagination produces absurd situations and creates both horrifying and farcical circumstances. “The play is about the unintentional and unexpected influences that each generation in a family has on its off-spring,” Hancock says. “Elements of the play that seem the most absurd are in fact true ones.”
This production represents the Department of Theatre & Dance in the 2009/10 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
Hancock directs frequently in the Memphis community, and premiered one of his other plays, The Writer’s Block, at the University of Memphis in 2004.
