Tom Boyd Featured During U of M’s Double Reed Festival January 20-21

Tom Boyd is one of the most heard oboists today. He reaches a wide and diverse audience
through his oboe performances and more than 1,200 motion picture scores. Boyd will
perform at the University’s Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music as part of the School’s
Double Reed festival on Saturday, January 21 at 1 p.m. The performance at Harris Concert Hall (3775 Central Ave.) is free and open to the

are Albie Micklich, bassoon; Paula Brusky, bassoon; Keith McClelland, bassoon, and
faculty members Michelle Vigneau, oboe and Lecolion Washington, bassoon.
Boyd attended The Julliard School and won the Principal Oboe position in The Honolulu
Symphony at the age of 21. After playing with the Honolulu Symphony for 10 years,
Boyd moved to Los Angeles, where, under the baton of John Williams, he played principal
oboe on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Other motion picture soundtracks include such blockbusters as Forrest Gump, Beauty and the Beast, Schindler’s List, Castaway, The Bucket List, and Charlie Wilson’s War.
Boyd taught music at the University of Hawaii for ten years. He has performed during
the Oscar and Grammy awards, appeared on The Tonight Show, and played on the albums of various artists, including Barbara Streisand, Bette
Midler, and Natalie Cole.
The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis offers Bachelor’s
through Doctoral degrees in 29 areas of concentration. The School has the distinction
