Southern Comfort Jazz Orchestra Will Play March 3 during
U of M Jazz Week

2012 Jazz WeekThe University of Memphis Jazz Week will kick off on Tuesday, February 28 at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music. Headliner for this year's event is the vocal jazz ensemble 3rd Coast Vocals, which will perform with the Southern Comfort Jazz Orchestra in Harris Concert Hall on Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m.

3rd Coast Vocals is the newest four part vocal jazz ensemble to hit the scene. Following in the giant footsteps of groups like The Manhattan Transfer, Lambert Hendricks and Ross, and New York Voices, 3rd Coast sings swinging arrangements with tight harmonies, placing their individual stamp on jazz classics, as well as performing unique and original material. Members are musical director/arranger Jeff Hall (tenor), Sandra Dudley (alto), Mark Stephens (bass), and Christina Watson (soprano).

All Jazz Week performances are held in Harris Concert Hall and begin at 7:30 p.m. For ticket information, call (901) 678-1651.
Harris Concert Hall is located in the Music Building, 3775 Central Avenue on the University of Memphis campus.

Tribute to The Matteson-Phillips Tubajazz Consort
February 29, 2012
The Matteson-Phillips Tubajazz Consort is a US big band scored for low brass instruments–trombones, euphoniums, and tuba –performed by artists who are renowned in jazz and/or classical music. The late Rich Matteson and Harvey Phillips conceived the idea during a T.U.B.A. Conference at Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska in 1975.
