Shanna Ketchum-Heap of Birds of the Diné/Navajo Nation Will Give Lecture at U of M

Shanna Ketchum-Heap of Birds, a citizen of the Diné/Navajo Nation and an independent
scholar, noted critic, and art historian of contemporary Native American art, will
give a lecture about "New Native Art Criticism" at the University of Memphis on Thursday,
February 9 at at 6 p.m. in room 250 of the Art & Communication Building, 3715 Central
Avenue. The lecture is free and open to the public. Ketchum-Heap of Birds teaches in the Native Studies Department at the University of
Oklahoma and lectures, both nationally and internationally, about contemporary issues
in Native art. Her work has appeared in Third Text: Critical Perspectives on Contemporary Art (London), Estrago (Latin America), Vision, Space, Desire: Global Perspectives and Cultural Hybridity (NMAI Edition), the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, the Massachusetts
College of Art, and the The Hugo Boss Prize 2008 (Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum).
