About the Robinson Scholars and Fellows Fund
The Elizabeth and Harold Robinson Scholars and Fellows Fund was established to honor
the parents of University of Memphis alumnus J. Michael Robinson and to assist in
the recruitment and retention of outstanding students.
Subject to available funding the award is approximately $3,000/year. It is available
to full-time University of Memphis undergraduate and graduate students majoring in
programs of the College of Communication and Fine Arts.
Incoming freshmen are also eligible to apply for the award as long as they major in
one of CCFA's programs, have been admitted to the University and completed any special
admission requirements of the programs of the College of Communication and Fine Arts.
Awards are based on academic and creative achievement. Financial need may also be
considered.
Eligibility Criteria
Incoming Freshmen
To be eligible for the scholarship, incoming freshmen must first be admitted to the
University of Memphis, major in one of CCFA's programs, complete any special admission
requirements of the programs of the College of Communication and Fine Arts, and have
a minimum ACT score of 24. Students must be enrolled full-time in one of the programs
of CCFA, maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 and if in good standing
may retain the award until the completion of their degree, but for no longer than
a maximum of four (4) years.
Undergraduate Students
Current CCFA undergraduate students who wish to be considered for the scholarship
should have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.3 or above. Students must be enrolled
full-time in one of the programs of CCFA, maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA)
of 3.0 and if in good standing may retain the award until the completion of their
degree, but for no longer than a maximum of four (4) years.
Graduate Students
Graduate students must major in one of CCFA's programs and be admitted to graduate
school before applying for the fellowship. Fellows must be enrolled full-time in one
of the programs of CCFA, maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 and
if in good standing may retain the award until the completion of their degree, but
for no longer than a maximum of three (3) years.
Selection Process
The 2012 application deadline for the award is January 30. Applications need to be
received in the CCFA Dean's office by that date.
The selection of award recipients is coordinated through the University's Scholarship
Office and the Robinson Fund Committee within the College of Communication and Fine
Arts. The selection of fellowship recipients is coordinated through the CCFA.
Interested students should obtain an application from the CCFA Dean's office or online.
The completed application form and a letter, stating qualifications and field of interest
should be sent to the CCFA Dean. Applicants should also include supporting letters
from high school teachers, university professors, and others familiar with their work,
as well as copy of their most recent academic transcript.
If students wish financial need to be considered, they should include information
showing that they have qualified for one of the Student Financial Assistance programs
administered by the U.S. Department of Education.
