Greely Myatt's Cloudy Thoughts, an art piece commissioned for "Interactions/Interruptions," a public art exhibition celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Memphis UrbanArt Commission (UAC) in 2008, has been included in the prestigious Public Art Year in Review rankings of top public art projects nationwide for 2008/09 by the Washington, D.C. based Americans for the Arts organization.
The sculpture consists of 10 "dialog bubbles" similar to those found in comic books. Each "bubble" is made from cut and painted steel and attached onto a billboard in a way that makes it appear to float in front of an image of a soft, blue, cloudy sky. The sculpture was on display at a billboard on the northwest corner of Madison and Belvedere in 2008. The piece will be reinstalled this fall as a part of Myatt's city-wide, retrospective, staged at various art venues throughout Memphis. Myatt's latest project Quiltsurround, an equipment screen at City Hall was installed in June.
Myatt is professor of art and associate chair of the Department of Art. You can see him in a recent interview with ArtsMemphis TV
