CCFA Student Films Win at
First Indie Memphis Student Shorts Competition

The first Indie Memphis Student Shorts Competition was held at the Memphis College
of Art on May 7. Three films by students from the Department of Communication were
among the winning entries.
Eric Huber’s The Notorious Jesse James, which was also included in a special screening at the 12th Annual On Location: Memphis
International Film and Music Fest in April, won Best In Show. San Diego a film by University of Memphis students Whitney Howard, Jesse Hearn, Nathan Ball,
and Ben Cummings, won the Audience Choice award in the Higher Education category,
and Patrick Churvis’ documentary short, Interview With Paul Eade won an Honorable Mention.
Memphis-area students from high schools, colleges, and universities submitted more
than 100 films; 24 were selected for the competitive showcase with a jury of industry
professionals such as William Bearden, DeAara Lewis, and Edward Valibus Phillips.
