The University of Memphis College of Communication and Fine Arts will host a dance
and composition workshop with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Nov. 2-3,
in the DanceSpace, room 124 of the Communication and Fine Arts Building.
The U of M Dance Program arranged for two members of the prominent post-modern dance
group to conduct the workshop while in Memphis for a performance at the Buckman Performing Arts Center on Nov. 4.
"For us to have the ability to share our material with artists-in-training is a fantastic
way of seeing what they do with it. It's a way for us to learn about them and ourselves,
as well," said Leah Cox, education director of Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company.
The workshop is open to select U of M students and a limited number of intermediate
and advanced community participants, ages 18 and above. Pre-registration is required
for both students and community dancers.

The two-day event opens Friday, Nov. 2, from 5-8 p.m. On Saturday, the workshop concludes
with an all-day session from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The cost is $60. Supported by the
University of Memphis Student Activity Fee, the event is free to intermediate and
advanced U of M dance students.
As part of the workshop, participants will immerse themselves in the Company’s movement
style and choreographic methods. Closely tied to the Company’s current repertory,
the workshop will develop participants’ abilities to work collaboratively and refine
their voices as movers and makers through the focused study of a selected work’s process
and product.
