Mrs. Bonnie Cummings received her Bachelors of Science degree in Biology with a concentration in vertebrate zoology form Memphis State University. She received her Masters in Education through the National Teacher Corps Program with emphasis on Elementary and Secondary License K-12. She was selected as the liaison for the Teacher Corps program to Memphis City Schools. Mrs. Cummings continued her plus hours at The University of TN Knoxville, Pepperdine College Malibu,CA and Memphis State University. Mrs. Cummings is certified as a Career Ladder Level II teacher in TN.
She was hired in the College of Education to serve as the site liaison to The Professional Develpment School Program. with Raleigh Egypt Middle School, Kingsbury Elementary and Coleman Elementary. This was a teaching collaboration among faculty,student teachers and the college community.
She has taught in three states : Tennessee, Texas and California. She worked in Shelby County Schools and Memphis State Campus School, Memphis, TN; Galveston Independent School District ,Galveston, TX. ; John Muir Junior High School and George Washington High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District LA, California
She has traveled abroad to present papers on reading and science Russia and South Africa on a peace keeping citizen to citizen mission with The People to People Ambassador Program started by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. She also presented a paper in Valetta, Malta at the(ATEE) Association of Teacher Education Europe Conference on Learning Styles and science studies of the Regal Swan.She has supervised student teachers for the College of Education in Worcestershire and Birmingham, England She accopmanied her student teachers and other supervisors to Paris, France, Ireland and Wales for a study abroad excursion.
Mrs. Cummings is an Instructor/Coordinator in the ICL department where she serves as Recrutiment coordinator for retention and development of undergraduate students. She is the liaison on the COE Aspiration Team 11a. She organizes campus visits for high school students interested in becoming a teacher. She started the "Kids to College Campaign" under the auspices of the Dean's Institute started by Nate Essex. She worked with the Geier Institute under Ric Hovda.She is the senior advisor for Student Tennessee Education Association (STEA), a professional organization for student professional development in leadership.University of Memphis STEA is the fifth largest student group in the state of TN.
