Dr. Michael Hutchinson joined The University of Memphis in August of 2012 as an Assistant Professor of Sport Commerce in the Department of Health and Sport Sciences. Dr. Hutchinson earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Mississippi College, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Sport Management from Texas A&M University. His research interests reside in the areas of organizational commitment and branding in sport. Dr. Hutchinson has published manuscripts in several peer-reviewed journals, including Sport Management Review, International Journal of Sports Marketing and Sponsorship, Journal of Intercollegiate Sport, and International Journal of Sport Management.

Dr. Hutchinson's research has been presented at numerous academic conferences such as the North American Society for Sport Management, Sport Marketing Association, and College Sport Research Institute, while also being recognized in several popular press media outlets including ESPN.com, Newsday, Bloomberg News, and Diverse Issues in Higher Education. Dr. Hutchinson has also served as principal investigator for numerous funded studies, earning funding from such granting organizations as the Knight Foundation and North American Society for Sport Management. At The University of Memphis, Dr. Hutchinson teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in Administration of Athletics, Financial Management in Sport Organizations, Sport Promotions and Information Services, and Legal and Ethical Aspects of Sport and Leisure.

Prior to joining The University of Memphis, Dr. Hutchinson spent two years at Coastal Carolina University as an Assistant Professor of Recreation and Sport Management. Originally from the suburbs of New Orleans, Dr. Hutchinson currently resides in Cordova, TN. He has been married to his lovely wife, the former Crystal Wingert, since April of 2010. Dr. and Mrs. Hutchinson have one daughter, Avery, born in November of last year.
