Dr.  Williams worked at St Jude Children's Research Hospital for 19 years.  While there, she became interested in research with children who have sickle cell disease and how they may benefit from nutrition interventions.  Additionally, she did research on ways to improve quality of life in children with cancer. 

She has taught classes at Shelby State Community College and Union University before coming to UM in 2008.
