Counseling Program Admissions

If you have any questions about the admissions process or the status of your application, please feel free to contact the Admissions Coordinator, Melynda Whitwell.

In order to be admitted into the Counseling Program a prospective student must submit:

  • An application to the University of Memphis Graduate School which includes the following:
    • Complete Formal Graduate School application
    • Official undergraduate transcripts
    • Official graduate transcripts (if applicable)
    • 3 references- these should be from professors and employers
    • Engage in an in-person interview with department faculty (to be scheduled)

Deadlines for Completed Application Packets

Masters Degree Admission Deadlines

  • Fall - March 1
  • Spring - October 1

Certificate in Career and College Counseling Admission Deadlines

  • Fall - March 1
  • Spring - October 1

Doctoral Degree Admission Deadline

  • Fall - March 1

It is strongly recommended that application packets be submitted in early February or early September in order to allow ample time for all official documents to arrive and be matched to your application file.  If you wish to speak to a faculty member related to your career goals and how the counseling program can help you attain your career vision, please contact one of the program concentration coordinators.
