The University of Memphis received an additional earmark in the SAFETEA-LU legislation to create The Center for Advanced Intermodal Technologies (CAIT). The amount of the funding was $5 million over a five year period with a required 20% match. Both CAIT and CIFTS are focused on the study of intermodal freight transportation issues. It is envisioned that CAIT will involve greater interaction with transportation providers and others in the private sector in the areas of logistics and supply chain management.
