CIUM Spring Gala - Chinese Dragon and Lion Dancing Program
The Confucius Institute at the University of Memphis will host a dragon and lion dancing
group from Hubei University on February 18, 2012 at the Rose Theater. The event will
begin at 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Parking with be provided as well as refreshments. Space is limited. Bring your family,

Chinese Bridge Summer Camp for U.S. High School Students
The Chinese Bridge Summer Camp for U.S. High School Students is an immersion camp sponsored by Hanban, the Confucius Institute Headquarters. This exciting 2-week summer camp offers
students a unique chance to experience China on a personal level. Campers have intensive,
but fun language study as well as a wide range of culture related classes. Campers
will also visit cultural landmarks, historical sites, and museums inside and outside
of Beijing. The 15-day summer camp, takes place in mid-July and promises to be a wonderful
opportunity for students to expand their horizon and have first-hand experience in

The CIUM is proud to host our annual Chinese summer camps for the fourth year at schools
across Memphis. We will be hosting Chinese summer camps at the following locations
and dates listed below. Please feel free to call our office at 901-678-3166 if you
have any questions or concerns. Financial assistance is available for those that qualify.

Congratulations to Dr. Hsiang-te Kung on being selected as one of the top 6 Confucius Institute directors in the U.S. and one of the top 30 Confucius Institute directors in the world for 2011 by Hanban. The announcement was made at the 6th Annual Confucius Institute Conference for Directors
held in Beijing in December.
Spring 2012 Chinese Language and Culture Classes
Do you want to get started learning Chinese? Or keep up the momentum with what you
have learned so far? Come join Chinese I and II for children ages 5 – 17 or join us
for Chinese I, II, III, or Chinese cultural classes designed primarily for working
adults who want to learn Chinese but don’t have time for a college-level class.

Chinese Summer Bridge Program for U.S. Administrators
Hanban and the CIUM will once again offer an opportunity for administrators across
Tennessee to travel to China to study, observe, and do research in Chinese K-12 schools
in Beijing and in one selected province. All expenses are covered with the exception
of international air fare. The program will be held in the summer of 2012. Please
