Caps and gowns will not be issued to student without a Commencement Pronouncer card. Cap and gown distribution will take place in the University Center Ballroom (3rd Floor). Pronouncer Cards MUST be brought with and kept with the student all day on graduation day. Please bring card!!! You cannot walk without your pronouncer card.
  2. Honor Cords-Honor Cords are distributed to participating students ON Commencement day. They will be distributed by your college during the lineup on Commencement day. Given to those with distinction in the program ONLY.
  3. Your cap and gown is ordered from information input on your intent to graduate form.  Caps and gowns are rented by the University for the students only for the day of graduation.  There is no charge for rented regalia. Students must return cap and gown on graduation day. Students may keep the tassel ONLY (students with honors distinction may also keep their honor cords).
  4. Students may purchase a cap and gown through the University Store by special order at least 2 months prior to the ceremony.
  5. Because caps and gowns are rented, they must be returned to the company representatives immediately after the ceremony at the FedExForum. If students are unable to return their caps and gowns on Commencement day, students have up until one week later to return their cap and gown to the Commencement Office (800 Wilder Tower) without penalty. After this, students that do not return cap and gown may be charged a fee and diplomas held.
  6. NO caps and gowns may be decorated. If you do this, your diploma may be held and a fee may be charged.
  7. All gowns are black. Male students receive a black robe and mortar board. Female students receive a black robe, mortar board, and a white collar.
  8. Male graduates are advised to wear dress trousers in a dark color, a white shirt with tie, dark shoes, and dark socks.
  9. Female graduates are advised to wear an appropriate day dress or slacks and comfortable dark shoes. We recommend flats or low heels. The stage consists of 8-10 stairs both up and down. You may need to bring bobby pins or safety pins with you to the ceremony in order to secure your mortar board or white collar.
  10. Tassels are worn to the right side for the Processional. They are a gift from the University. No additional adornments should be worn with the cap and gown. Exceptions to this rule include honor pins and/or ribbons of University recognized national organizations.
